Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a 24/7 emergency and specialty referral hospital seeking a Full-Time Emergency Veterinarian to join its team. Caring for dogs and cats, the hospital provides around-the-clock emergency and critical care alongside a broad range of specialist services. The position is open to both experienced veterinarians and new graduates.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Emergency Veterinarian will be responsible for providing high-quality emergency and critical care to patients presenting with urgent, life-threatening, and complex medical conditions. Clinical responsibilities include performing rapid patient assessments, stabilizing critically ill or injured animals, diagnosing and treating a wide range of emergency presentations, interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and performing emergency surgical procedures when required.
Working closely with veterinary technicians and support staff, the Emergency Veterinarian will provide efficient and compassionate care within a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities also include communicating clearly with pet owners regarding treatment options and prognosis, maintaining accurate medical records, and collaborating with referring veterinarians to ensure continuity of care. The veterinarian should be comfortable making confident clinical decisions under pressure while maintaining high standards of patient care and client service.
The schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week, covering swing and night shifts.

Practice Details
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is a dedicated emergency and specialty referral facility. The facility is equipped for continuous hospitalization and around-the-clock management of emergency and critically ill patients while also supporting specialist consultations, advanced diagnostic investigations, and surgical procedures.
Advanced diagnostic and specialty capabilities support a high-acuity emergency and referral caseload. Resources include diagnostic ultrasound and gastrointestinal endoscopy alongside a dedicated Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology service. The hospital’s wider specialty structure supports advanced diagnostics and treatment across Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Medical Oncology, and Emergency and Critical Care.
The five principal specialty departments are Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Surgery. Emergency and critical care services are available 24/7, while specialty patients are managed through referral. Internal Medicine accepts referrals for advanced diagnostic procedures including GI endoscopy and ultrasound. Medical Oncology is also represented within the current veterinary roster, while surgical care includes specialist-level surgery provided by a DACVS small animal surgeon alongside additional doctors whose practice is limited to surgery.
The practice is specifically designed to work as a referral partner for primary care veterinarians, with an emphasis on close communication throughout consultation, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Continuing education opportunities are also provided for referring veterinary professionals, including educational events and Lunch & Learn opportunities focused on developments in veterinary medicine.

Team
The hospital has a large multidisciplinary veterinary team of more than 18 veterinarians, covering emergency medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, and surgery alongside associate veterinarians. The clinical team includes board-certified specialists in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Surgery, as well as emergency veterinarians and a doctor practicing Medical Oncology.
Veterinarians are supported by 15 clinical support staff, including 10 Registered Veterinary Technicians, with supervisory and lead RVTs within the team, four Veterinary Assistants, and one Credential Technician/Pharmacy team member. Board-certified specialists, emergency veterinarians, associate veterinarians, RVTs, and other clinical support staff work collaboratively across complex referral and emergency cases, creating a genuinely multidisciplinary specialty environment.
