Job Description
Introduction
Our client is an emergency and specialty veterinary hospital seeking an Emergency Veterinarian to join their team on either a full-time or part-time basis. Caring for cats and dogs, the hospital provides advanced emergency and referral services in a fast-paced environment, offering experienced veterinarians the opportunity to manage complex and rewarding cases alongside a multidisciplinary team.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Emergency Veterinarian is responsible for providing high-quality emergency and critical care to patients presenting with urgent, life-threatening, or complex medical conditions. Clinical responsibilities include performing rapid patient assessments, stabilizing critically ill or injured animals, diagnosing and treating a wide range of emergency cases, interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and performing emergency surgical procedures when required. The Emergency Veterinarian works closely with veterinary technicians and support staff to deliver efficient, compassionate care in a fast-paced environment, communicates clearly with pet owners regarding treatment options and prognosis, maintains accurate medical records, and collaborates with referring veterinarians to ensure continuity of care. They are expected to make confident clinical decisions under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and client service. This opportunity is open to experienced veterinarians only. Full-time benefits begin at 10 shifts per month.
Practice Details
The hospital provides emergency and specialty veterinary care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical technology to support emergency and specialty veterinary medicine. Veterinarians have access to a comprehensive in-house laboratory, digital radiography (X-ray), ultrasound, and advanced monitoring equipment to support critically ill and emergency patients. The hospital is designed to provide advanced diagnostics and treatment for complex medical and surgical cases while delivering high-quality patient care.
The purpose-built emergency and specialty referral center features dedicated emergency and critical care treatment areas, advanced surgical suites, in-house laboratory capabilities, diagnostic imaging, consultation rooms, and specialized patient care spaces. The facility is designed to manage complex emergency, medical, and surgical cases while providing continuous patient monitoring and intensive care.
The hospital provides advanced emergency and specialty veterinary services for companion animals. Services include 24/7 emergency medicine, urgent care, critical care, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery. The hospital works closely with primary care veterinarians to provide advanced diagnostics, specialist consultations, surgical intervention, and ongoing management of complex medical conditions requiring referral-level care.
Opened in 2020, the hospital serves as an extension of local family veterinarians by providing around-the-clock emergency and specialty care for pets throughout San Jose and the greater Bay Area. The hospital focuses exclusively on advanced referral medicine, offering compassionate care delivered by emergency clinicians and board-certified specialists.
Team
The hospital currently has 16 veterinarians, including emergency clinicians and board-certified specialists. The practice is supported by a multidisciplinary team of emergency veterinarians, board-certified specialists, registered veterinary technicians, and experienced support staff who work collaboratively to provide continuous, high-quality emergency and specialty care. The hospital also partners closely with referring veterinarians to ensure seamless patient care throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
