Job Description

Introduction
A leading 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah is seeking a full-time Emergency Veterinarian to join its collaborative clinical team. The hospital provides state-of-the-art care within a fast-paced environment where doctors are supported in managing both emergency presentations and hospitalized patients to a high clinical standard. This opportunity would suit an experienced emergency clinician as well as a veterinarian looking to develop further within ER medicine, with structured education, real-time mentorship and ongoing professional development available to support continued clinical growth.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing continuous emergency care to Salt Lake City and the surrounding Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Millcreek and Murray communities. This is a full-time emergency position, with the specific shift pattern to be discussed with the successful candidate. The round-the-clock model provides continuity for hospitalized and critical patients while allowing doctors to work alongside an experienced clinical team throughout the emergency service.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As an Emergency Veterinarian, you’ll assess and triage sick and injured patients, perform diagnostic investigations, develop and oversee treatment plans, manage hospitalized cases and provide critical care for patients requiring close monitoring. You’ll work closely with veterinary technicians to coordinate treatment and will also perform emergency surgical procedures where appropriate, combining efficient clinical decision-making with compassionate communication for owners during challenging situations. Previous emergency experience or completion of a small animal rotating or emergency internship is highly recommended, although veterinarians earlier in their ER careers may also have access to structured emergency training and mentorship. Candidates should hold a DVM, VMD or equivalent qualification and be licensed, or eligible for licensure, in Utah, alongside holding or being eligible to obtain the appropriate DEA licence.

Practice Details
This established Salt Lake City hospital provides 24/7 emergency veterinary care within a modern clinical environment focused on advanced medicine, efficient workflows and Fear Free patient care. Doctors are supported by experienced technicians and veterinary professionals, with access to wider specialist collaboration, ongoing mentorship, continuing education and clinical development resources through a nationwide network of primary, emergency and specialty hospitals. The practice places a strong emphasis on supporting veterinarians throughout their careers, including doctors transitioning further into emergency medicine and experienced ER clinicians looking to continue developing their skills or progress into leadership. Salt Lake City also provides an excellent setting outside of work, combining a thriving metropolitan area with exceptional access to the Wasatch Mountains, skiing, hiking and year-round outdoor recreation.
