An established 24-hour Emergency and Specialty veterinary hospital in Matthews, North Carolina is seeking an Emergency Veterinarian to join its experienced clinical team. The hospital provides comprehensive Emergency and Critical Care for dogs and cats, supported by advanced referral services encompassing Neurology, Surgery, Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Cardiology and Internal Medicine. The position offers the opportunity to manage a diverse emergency caseload within a multidisciplinary environment, working alongside board-certified specialists, experienced emergency clinicians and skilled veterinary support personnel. The hospital forms part of an established regional network of emergency and specialty referral facilities, providing access to advanced diagnostic equipment and collaborative case management across multiple disciplines. The role is suitable for an experienced Emergency Veterinarian or a clinician seeking to further develop their emergency medicine capabilities within a well-equipped referral hospital. Continuing education resources, professional development opportunities and clinical autonomy are supported.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Emergency Veterinarian will provide comprehensive Emergency and Critical Care, managing a varied caseload of urgent, acute and critically ill patients presenting to the hospital’s 24-hour emergency service. Clinical responsibilities include emergency assessment, diagnostic investigation, patient stabilisation, treatment planning, emergency procedures and ongoing management of hospitalised patients. The position involves working closely with specialist clinicians on complex cases, coordinating patient transfers between emergency and referral services, and maintaining continuity of care throughout hospitalisation. Additional responsibilities include participating in clinical rounds, supporting established hospital protocols and collaborating with veterinary technicians and support personnel to maintain high clinical standards. The successful veterinarian will have opportunities to develop expertise across a broad range of emergency presentations while benefiting from access to advanced diagnostic capabilities and specialist consultation. The role also provides opportunities to contribute to departmental development, collaborative case discussions and the continued improvement of emergency clinical services.

Practice Details
The hospital operates a comprehensive 24-hour Emergency and Specialty veterinary service, providing Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Cardiology and Internal Medicine. The facility offers advanced diagnostic capabilities including Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, Echocardiography, Endoscopy and an In-House Laboratory. Additional facilities include an In-House Pharmacy and a Linear Accelerator for Radiation Oncology, supporting complex diagnostic investigations and specialist treatment. The hospital provides advanced surgical services for neurological, orthopedic and soft tissue conditions, alongside medical oncology, radiation treatment and specialist management of cardiovascular and internal medical disorders. The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Specialist appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with referral-based access to the hospital’s specialist departments.

The hospital is supported by an established multidisciplinary team of emergency veterinarians, board-certified specialists, veterinary technicians and additional clinical support personnel. Specialist disciplines include Neurology, Surgery, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Cardiology and Internal Medicine, providing opportunities for collaborative case management and specialist consultation. The incoming Emergency Veterinarian will join an experienced clinical environment that encourages shared case discussions, professional development and close cooperation between emergency and referral services.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
