Job Description
Introduction
A large 24-hour small animal hospital in Littleton, Colorado is looking to hire an Overnight Emergency Veterinarian. Providing care for dogs and cats, the hospital combines General Practice with around-the-clock Emergency & Critical Care and has the clinical resources and experienced team needed to manage a broad range of cases. With a particularly large veterinary and support team already in place, this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the pace and variety of emergency medicine while still having plenty of people around them to collaborate with.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role focuses on the full scope of Emergency Veterinarian responsibilities during the hospital’s overnight service, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of emergency cases from initial assessment and diagnostics through stabilization, treatment planning, hospitalization and ongoing case management. You’ll have plenty of scope to use your own clinical judgement while working with the hospital’s diagnostic, surgical and critical care capabilities to manage more involved cases in-house. One of the real benefits of joining a hospital of this size is the amount of clinical experience around you, with veterinarians working across Emergency Medicine, General Practice and a range of advanced clinical interests, alongside access to board-certified expertise when another perspective would be useful.
Practice Details
The hospital is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides a full scope of Emergency & Critical Care services, including overnight hospitalization and patient monitoring. Beyond emergency medicine, the hospital has particularly broad capabilities including Orthopedic Surgery, Oncology, Dermatology, Cardiology, Advanced Dentistry, acupuncture, laser therapy, endoscopy and minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery. Equipment and clinical resources available include, but are not limited to, Radiography, Ultrasound, a complete In-House Laboratory and surgical facilities, giving the team strong diagnostic and treatment capabilities when working through emergency cases. The hospital also provides boarding alongside its veterinary services.
Team
You’ll be joining a particularly well-established hospital with 18 veterinarians and more than 70 team members, so there’s a lot of experience to draw on when you’re working through challenging cases. The current veterinary team includes dedicated Emergency Veterinarians alongside clinicians with interests across areas including cardiology, orthopedic surgery and dentistry, as well as board-certified expertise. The wider clinical team includes a substantial group of Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and Technician Assistants, with additional management and client service teams helping keep the hospital running smoothly around the clock. Despite being a larger hospital, teamwork is clearly a big part of the day-to-day environment, with the team working closely together and plenty of opportunity to share knowledge, discuss cases and lean on the experience around you when needed.
Candidate Requirements
