Introduction
An established companion animal and exotic veterinary hospital in Cookeville, Tennessee is seeking an experienced Veterinarian to join its Evening Emergency and Urgent Care service. Serving the Upper Cumberland region for more than 55 years, the hospital provides comprehensive veterinary services for dogs, cats and exotic companion animals, combining General Practice with Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Dentistry and advanced surgical care. The practice operates a walk-in model, providing a varied clinical environment with opportunities to manage urgent presentations and complex medical cases alongside an experienced multidisciplinary veterinary team. The position is specifically focused on evening Emergency and Urgent Care, offering the opportunity to practise Emergency Medicine without overnight shifts or weekend working requirements. The hospital maintains a strong emphasis on clinical autonomy, collaborative case management and professional development, with access to the resources of a wider veterinary organisation.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Evening Emergency and Urgent Care Veterinarian will be responsible for the assessment, stabilisation and management of patients presenting with acute illness, traumatic injury and other urgent medical or surgical conditions. Clinical responsibilities will encompass emergency triage, diagnostic investigation, treatment planning, medical stabilisation and the management of patients requiring immediate intervention. The position involves making timely clinical decisions across a varied caseload, including cases requiring emergency surgical assessment, critical patient monitoring and ongoing medical management. The successful veterinarian will work closely with experienced veterinary technicians and fellow clinicians, coordinating patient care and supporting effective communication during urgent and emergency presentations. Opportunities are available to utilise existing expertise in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgery while contributing to the continued development of the hospital’s urgent care provision. The position requires an experienced veterinarian confident in managing emergency presentations and working independently within a busy clinical environment. The role offers a dedicated evening schedule without overnight or weekend shifts.

Practice Details
The hospital provides comprehensive veterinary services for dogs, cats and exotic companion animals, including Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Dentistry, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Dermatology, Oncology, Behavioural Medicine, Nutritional Counselling and End-of-Life Care. Surgical capabilities encompass routine and advanced Soft Tissue procedures alongside Orthopedic Surgery, including the assessment and management of fractures and other musculoskeletal conditions. Diagnostic equipment includes Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, Electrocardiography (ECG), Tonometry and a Full In-House Laboratory, supported by an In-House Pharmacy. The practice also provides cancer diagnosis and staging, dental examinations and treatment, routine wellness testing, vaccinations, parasite management and boarding facilities. The hospital operates a walk-in service for routine and urgent veterinary care, with additional on-call emergency provision available after hours from Friday through Sunday. Published opening hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The hospital is closed for routine appointments on Sundays.

Team
The hospital operates as an established eight-veterinarian practice, supported by experienced veterinary technicians, laboratory personnel, kennel staff and administrative professionals. The veterinary team includes a Medical Director and seven Associate Veterinarians, with clinical interests encompassing Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Soft Tissue Surgery, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Diagnostic Imaging. Veterinary technicians bring more than 30 years of combined experience, providing established clinical support across routine and emergency caseloads. The incoming Veterinarian will join a collaborative clinical environment with opportunities for shared case discussions, independent clinical decision-making and continued professional development.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
