Job Description

Introduction
A locally managed Emergency and Specialty hospital in Portland, Oregon is looking to welcome a Veterinary Physical Therapist to its growing multidisciplinary team. The hospital has developed quickly since opening in 2022 and has built a strong referral and emergency service supported by advanced technology and a wide range of veterinary specialists. There’s a real focus on excellent medicine and patient care, but also on creating a positive environment where people enjoy working together and have the freedom to develop their own areas of interest.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This role offers the opportunity to help build and grow a comprehensive veterinary rehabilitation service, working with patients across both musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation. You’ll be involved in developing individualized rehabilitation plans and using hydrotherapy and other rehabilitation modalities to support patients through their recovery, while working closely with specialists across Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Critical Care and the wider hospital. There’s plenty of scope to make the service your own and help shape how rehabilitation fits into the hospital’s wider specialty offering, with advanced technology and an established referral base already there to support its development. The position is suited to an experienced Physical Therapist with a background in veterinary rehabilitation, sports medicine or animal health. A current Oregon Physical Therapist license, or the ability to obtain one, is required, alongside a degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program. Certification in Canine Rehabilitation such as CCRP, CCRT, CCAT or an equivalent is preferred, although the hospital is also open to someone willing to pursue certification.

Practice Details
The hospital provides Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Dialysis, Urgent Care and advanced imaging, giving the rehabilitation service access to a genuinely broad range of patients and specialties. Equipment and facilities available include, but are not limited to, a Tudor Underwater Treadmill, Canon Aplio A450 Ultrasound, GE OEC 9800 Plus C-Arm, Siemens Avanto 1.5T MRI, Toshiba Aquilion 128-Slice CT, PrisMax and PuriFi Dialysis Systems, Ho Laser and three state-of-the-art Digital X-Ray rooms, alongside a fully equipped ER and ICU. The combination of advanced imaging, specialist services and dedicated rehabilitation equipment gives the successful candidate plenty to work with when developing the hospital’s rehabilitation offering. Emergency and Specialty admitting hours are currently 7:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week, while Urgent Care appointments are available six days a week.

Team
You’ll be joining a large multidisciplinary team that currently includes 3 Surgeons, 2 Internists, 3 Neurologists, 1 Radiologist, 1 Ophthalmologist, 3 Criticalists and an experienced Emergency service, alongside interns, Urgent Care veterinarians and a wider team of experienced clinical professionals. Collaboration is a big part of how the hospital works, with daily case rounds giving different specialties the chance to talk through challenging patients and share their knowledge rather than each department working separately. For a Physical Therapist, having Surgery, Neurology and advanced imaging within the same hospital should create a particularly interesting environment for developing the rehabilitation service, while the rotating internship program adds to the wider learning and mentoring culture within the team.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
