Job Description

Introduction
For a veterinarian who values good clinical support, a collaborative atmosphere and the freedom to continue developing their own interests, this hospital in Santa Cruz, California is looking to welcome an Associate Veterinarian, with full-time preferred but part-time also considered. The caseload is primarily dogs and cats, although other species may be seen depending on the individual veterinarian’s interests and experience. With modern diagnostics, hands-free radiology and a team that actively uses fear-free techniques where possible, there’s a nice balance between everyday General Practice and having the resources to investigate cases properly when patients need a little more.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of General Practice responsibilities, with a varied mix of wellness and sick appointments alongside diagnostics, treatment planning, dentistry and surgery. Common procedures include dentals, spays, neuters, mass removals and laceration repairs, with the majority of surgical cases managed on an outpatient basis. You’ll have the independence to take ownership of your patients and build genuine relationships with clients, while working within a team that puts plenty of emphasis on collaboration, teaching and continued learning. The schedule can accommodate either full-time or part-time employment, with the veterinary team rotating weekend coverage when needed.

Practice Details
The hospital provides a full scope of GP services, including comprehensive dentistry, diagnostic medicine, surgery and hospitalization when required. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, Digital Radiography, Dental Radiography, Ultrasound, EKG, an In-House Laboratory, In-House Pharmacy and an In-Office Surgical Suite, alongside an Isolation Ward and Oxygen and Transfusion Therapy capabilities. In-house diagnostics include Abaxis Chemistry Panels and IDEXX SNAP testing, with a microscope and centrifuge available for preparing and examining samples. The hospital also uses hands-free radiology, while diagnostic images can be submitted to a board-certified radiologist for additional interpretation when required. Current opening hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the hospital is closed on Sundays.

Team
You’ll be joining an experienced veterinary and support team with a strong emphasis on working collaboratively and sharing knowledge rather than simply managing cases in isolation. The current veterinary team brings a range of clinical interests to the hospital, including areas such as Internal Medicine and Holistic Care, giving you different perspectives to draw on when discussing cases. The wider team includes veterinary technicians and dedicated support professionals, providing plenty of people to work alongside throughout the day while still giving you the independence to manage your own caseload and develop the areas of General Practice that interest you most.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
