Job Description
Introduction
Backed by a particularly strong Registered Veterinary Technician team and a modern diagnostic setup, this small animal hospital in San Jose, California is looking to welcome a full-time Associate Veterinarian. The caseload is primarily dogs and cats, with experience in pocket pets and exotics also represented within the veterinary team. It’s a nice environment for someone who wants the independence to build their own client relationships and manage their own cases while having plenty of experienced clinical support around them throughout the working day.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of General Practice responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of cases across preventive medicine, diagnostics, treatment planning, Internal Medicine, surgery and dentistry. You’ll be able to stay involved throughout your patients’ care, using the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities to work cases up while collaborating with the wider veterinary and technical team when another perspective would be useful. There’s a strong emphasis on teamwork and sharing knowledge, alongside continued professional development for someone who wants to keep building their clinical interests. The position is full-time with rotating shifts, with the hospital looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, developing strong client relationships and continuing to learn throughout their career.
Practice Details
The hospital provides a full scope of GP services alongside Internal Medicine, Intensive Care and Soft Tissue Surgery, with comprehensive dentistry, hospitalization and diagnostic medicine also available. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, Digital Radiography, Dental Radiography, Ultrasound, EKG, Tonopen and an In-House Laboratory, alongside an In-House Pharmacy, In-Office Surgical Suite and Isolation Ward. The hospital also uses hands-free radiology, helping support a safer working environment for the clinical team. Current hospital hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Team
One of the particularly nice parts of this opportunity is the level of technical support available, with 6 Registered Veterinary Technicians on staff alongside the wider veterinary and support team. There’s also some additional clinical variety within the doctor team, with two veterinarians bringing experience in pocket pets and exotics alongside the hospital’s primarily companion animal caseload. The overall setup gives you plenty of people to bounce ideas off, share knowledge with and rely on for clinical support, while still giving you the independence to take ownership of your own patients and develop genuine relationships with clients.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
