Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a privately owned small animal veterinary hospital seeking a full-time or part-time Associate Veterinarian to join its growing team. The hospital currently provides care for dogs and cats but welcomes veterinarians with additional species interests who would like to expand the services offered. The practice has significant potential for growth and offers an opportunity for a veterinarian to develop their clinical interests within a supportive environment that values collaboration, professional development and work-life balance.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Associate Veterinarian will provide comprehensive small animal care, including preventative medicine, diagnostics, routine surgery and general medical consultations. The hospital currently performs routine spays, neuters and mass removals, with opportunities for a veterinarian interested in more advanced surgical procedures to expand the surgical caseload. Surgery is typically scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, with additional procedures accommodated when required. Consultations take place throughout Monday and Friday and on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with appointment lengths adjusted according to patient needs and the veterinarian’s preferences. The practice is ideally seeking an experienced veterinarian or a confident early-career doctor, although new graduates will also be considered. Mentorship is available, with an emphasis on developing clinical confidence and individual interests. Both full-time and part-time arrangements are available, with full-time hours ranging from 30 to 40 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, with rotating Saturdays anticipated.

Practice Details
The hospital is equipped with a Heska in-house laboratory offering haematology, blood chemistry, endocrine testing, urinalysis and faecal microscopy. Additional equipment includes digital radiography with AI-assisted interpretation, digital cytology, VetCorder and capnography surgical monitoring, Phovia light therapy, cold laser therapy and Assisi electromagnetic therapy devices. The practice follows Fear Free and Cat Friendly principles, emphasising the human-animal bond, compassionate end-of-life care and a spectrum-of-care approach to veterinary medicine. The hospital does not perform ear cropping or declawing and refers after-hours emergencies whenever possible. The practice also works intermittently with a feral cat group and is exploring the development of a more formal animal shelter. There is scope to introduce additional clinical services and invest in equipment to support the incoming veterinarian’s interests.

Team
The hospital currently has one DVM supported by three veterinary technicians and seven additional team members, including veterinary assistants and kennel staff. The practice owner is an experienced veterinarian with a strong commitment to continuing education, mentorship and collaborative leadership. The team values open communication, shared decision-making, professional growth and a willingness to explore new approaches to veterinary medicine. The incoming veterinarian will be encouraged to contribute ideas, develop their skills and play an active role in the hospital’s continued growth.
