Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a progressive and expanding large animal practice in southwest Michigan seeking a full-time Large Animal Veterinarian to join their team. Providing care to the area for over 25 years, the practice is predominantly mobile and services approximately 30,000 lactating dairy cows, alongside beef cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and a growing small animal clientele.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Large Animal Veterinarian will be responsible for the full scope of general practice responsibilities, with flexibility to focus on a single species or work across a mixed-large animal caseload depending on individual preference. The position is open to both experienced veterinarians and new graduates, with over 65 years of combined veterinary experience available to provide mentorship and support to young and newly qualified doctors. Doctor hours are open to discussion, with a four-day work week available. The practice currently operates a four-week on-call rotation, with each veterinarian covering one week at a time and averaging approximately one to two after-hours calls during their on-call week. The veterinarian handling the emergency receives 100% of the emergency fee.
Practice Details
The practice is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is well equipped to support its varied large animal caseload. Equipment includes Easy-Scan Lite ultrasound systems for cattle herds, a digital X-ray system, and Terafloat dental equipment for horses. The practice provides the full scope of GP services, including wellness, preventative care, internal medicine, soft-tissue surgery, and dentistry, alongside herd health and reproduction services.
Team
The veterinary team consists of six DVMs with over 65 years of combined experience, supported by a great team of support staff.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
