Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a practice providing mixed animal veterinary care for dogs, cats, and equine patients in Mount Airy, North Carolina, and is seeking an experienced Associate Veterinarian to join the team. The practice is open to both full-time and part-time applicants and has served the local community since 1966, offering comprehensive veterinary medicine within a family-oriented environment. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the practice also operates a second location in Galax, Virginia.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Associate Veterinarian will provide medical and surgical care for companion animals, including physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, performing surgical procedures, and prescribing medications. Responsibilities include operating diagnostic equipment, collecting and interpreting diagnostic samples, developing appropriate treatment plans, and advising clients on preventive care and treatment options. The role also involves providing end-of-life care guidance, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring compliance with veterinary ethics, policies, and procedures. This position is specifically for an experienced veterinarian.

Practice Details
The practice offers a combination of small animal and equine veterinary services, with both locations having undergone renovations within the last 15 years. Small animal facilities include an on-site IDEXX laboratory, ultrasound, digital radiography, tonometry, electrocautery, and cold laser therapy, alongside advanced surgical capabilities including orthopaedic procedures and cruciate repairs. Equine services are supported by portable radiography, portable ultrasound, and power equine dentistry equipment. The practice serves clients across Surry County, Stokes County, Carroll County, and Patrick County, providing medical and surgical care within a community-focused environment. Opening hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the practice closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Team
The practice has five DVMs supported by a team of 22 support staff, including two licensed veterinary technicians. The technicians are experienced in surgical induction and monitoring, intravenous and urinary catheterisation, and wound care, while veterinary assistants provide support with patient restraint, client education, examinations, and farm calls. The team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality veterinary medicine while maintaining a family-oriented and community-focused approach to patient care.
