Job Description

Introduction
This non-profit small animal hospital in McCall, Idaho is seeking a Senior Veterinarian to join its community-focused veterinary team. Operating alongside a no-kill animal shelter, the hospital provides comprehensive veterinary care for cats and dogs, combining general practice, urgent care, surgery and dentistry with a commitment to making veterinary medicine more accessible. This opportunity is suited to a veterinarian with at least three years of clinical experience who is looking to remain hands-on with patients while taking on additional responsibilities within the hospital’s clinical operations and team development.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital typically operates Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with weekends closed and no after-hours or weekend on-call requirements. Both full-time and part-time arrangements are available, with full-time hours generally ranging from 30 to 40 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible around individual preferences, with a typical working week including a dedicated surgery day alongside general appointments, preventative medicine and urgent care. Doctors receive a protected one-hour lunch break and dedicated time for medical records, while appointment lengths are generally around 30 minutes for routine consultations, with flexibility depending on the patient and veterinarian.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As a Senior Veterinarian, you’ll manage a varied clinical caseload spanning preventative medicine, internal medicine, diagnostics, surgery, dentistry and same-day urgent care. Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you’ll contribute to hospital meetings, provide input into daily patient numbers and appointment capacity, and participate in discussions surrounding operational planning and budgeting. You’ll work collaboratively with the wider veterinary team, supporting effective clinical workflows and encouraging technicians to utilise their skills and experience. The hospital values veterinarians who are passionate about continued learning, open to new ideas and committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care while helping clients access treatment options suited to their circumstances.

Practice Details
The hospital currently works with a Senior Veterinarian, Staff Veterinarian and Relief Veterinarian, supported by approximately two to three technicians per doctor, with additional assistance available on surgery days. The facility includes three examination rooms, a spacious treatment area with a wet table, a surgical suite renovated in 2024, digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, an IDEXX in-house laboratory, laser therapy and electronic medical records. Services include preventative medicine, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, comprehensive dentistry, same-day urgent care and daytime emergency stabilisation, alongside veterinary care for animals within the associated shelter. The hospital operates primarily as a conventional fee-paying practice but also offers affordable treatment through flexible care plans, subsidised funding and a dedicated charitable fund for lifesaving care. The team incorporates Fear Free principles where possible and maintains a collaborative environment where every team member’s contribution is valued.
