Job Description
Introduction
This non-profit small animal hospital in McCall, Idaho is seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join its supportive, community-focused team. Providing veterinary care for both privately owned pets and animals within an associated shelter, the hospital offers a diverse caseload spanning general medicine, surgery, dentistry and urgent care. With a strong commitment to accessible veterinary medicine, flexible scheduling and collaborative patient care, this is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian with at least one year of clinical experience who enjoys variety and wants to make a meaningful difference in the local community.
Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates primarily between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekend or after-hours on-call responsibilities. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available, with full-time positions typically ranging from 30 to 40 hours per week. Veterinarians have flexibility in how their appointments are organised, including the option to dedicate time to surgery or structure their days around a preferred mixture of wellness and sick patients. Routine appointments are generally 30 minutes, with a protected one-hour lunch break and additional time throughout the day for completing medical records.
Role Description and Responsibilities
Your primary focus will be delivering hands-on veterinary care, managing cases from initial consultation through diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. The caseload includes preventative healthcare, internal medicine, dental procedures, soft tissue surgery and same-day urgent appointments, with opportunities to treat conditions ranging from routine illnesses to more involved medical presentations. Surgical responsibilities can be adapted to individual interests, meaning veterinarians who prefer a medicine-focused position are equally welcome. You’ll also have the opportunity to treat shelter animals and work with pet owners facing financial limitations, exploring practical treatment alternatives and making use of charitable funding where appropriate. With experienced technicians handling much of the clinical support, you’ll be encouraged to focus on veterinary medicine while maintaining a collaborative approach to patient care.
Practice Details
The hospital combines a full-service veterinary facility with the wider mission of an animal welfare organisation, creating an environment where both privately owned pets and shelter animals receive veterinary attention. The clinical team includes a Senior Veterinarian, Staff Veterinarian and Relief Veterinarian, with approximately two to three technicians supporting each doctor and additional assistance during surgical procedures. Facilities include three examination rooms, a large treatment area, a recently renovated surgical suite, digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, an IDEXX laboratory, therapeutic laser equipment and paperless medical records. Alongside conventional veterinary services, the hospital provides subsidised treatment, affordable spay and neuter programmes and access to a charitable fund for lifesaving care. Fear Free handling principles are incorporated wherever possible, with an emphasis on thoughtful case management, realistic appointment scheduling and allowing every member of the clinical team to contribute their skills.
