Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a privately owned veterinary hospital seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join its team on either a full-time or part-time basis. The hospital provides comprehensive care for cats and dogs, with the opportunity for the new DVM to bring in services for additional species if they are confident doing so. The practice offers a collaborative environment with a focus on preventative medicine, dentistry, surgery, internal medicine, and compassionate patient care. Great emphasis is placed on teamwork, with a close-knit hospital culture that has been carefully developed to ensure every member of the team feels supported and works together to provide the highest standard of care.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Associate Veterinarian will provide a broad range of medical and surgical care, including preventative medicine, wellness examinations, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery, geriatric care, behavioural consultations, allergy testing, and nutritional counselling. Surgical and dental procedures are typically scheduled in the mornings, with consultations taking place during the afternoons. Appointment lengths vary depending on the case, with routine appointments generally lasting 30 minutes and more complex or sick patient appointments extending up to 45 minutes. Longer appointment times allow for a strong focus on client education and communication, with the practice placing great importance on building trusting relationships with pet owners and ensuring they feel informed throughout their pet’s care. The practice also offers drop-off appointments to support workflow. The role is open to experienced veterinarians and would also suit a new graduate who is capable of working with a level of independence. The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with both clients and colleagues.

Practice Details
The hospital is open Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Full-time veterinarians work a 40-hour week, with part-time opportunities also available. The typical doctor schedule is Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and rotating Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. The practice is equipped with digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, a dental machine, a dedicated surgical suite, comprehensive in-house laboratory facilities, and electronic medical records. An internal medicine specialist also visits the hospital every Thursday. Services include routine preventative care, vaccinations, general dentistry and surgery, geriatric care, new pet counselling, nutritional counselling, behavioural consultations, allergy testing, drop-off appointments, and in-house laboratory diagnostics. Although the hospital is not Fear Free certified, it follows Fear Free principles in its approach to patient care.

Team
The practice currently has two veterinarians, with one due to leave, and is supported by three part-time veterinary technicians, one full-time veterinary technician, one veterinary assistant, and two client service representatives. The owner and senior team have worked hard to foster a genuinely supportive, collaborative culture where teamwork, mutual respect, and open communication are at the heart of the hospital. Every member of the team plays an important role in delivering exceptional patient care and creating a positive experience for clients.
