Job Description
Introduction
For a veterinarian who wants experienced people around them without losing the freedom to develop their own way of practicing, this AAHA-accredited small animal hospital in Leesport, Pennsylvania is looking to welcome an Associate Veterinarian, with full-time, part-time and relief opportunities available. Providing care for dogs and cats, the hospital combines comprehensive General Practice with surgery, dentistry and in-house diagnostic capabilities, backed by a clinical team with decades of experience. New graduates are actively welcomed and mentorship is a genuine part of the opportunity, while an experienced veterinarian will have plenty of scope to bring their own strengths and ideas to an established community practice.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of General Practice responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to build ownership of cases across preventive medicine, diagnostics, treatment planning, dentistry, Internal Medicine and surgery. There’s good scope to remain hands-on surgically while developing your diagnostic and medical interests, with experienced veterinarians and technicians available to collaborate with when cases become more involved. For a new graduate, mentorship can provide additional guidance as you build confidence with consultations, case management and surgical procedures, rather than expecting you to become completely independent from day one. More experienced veterinarians will equally have the autonomy to make their own clinical decisions and contribute ideas to the wider hospital. Applications are welcomed from both experienced veterinarians and new graduates, with mentorship and continued professional development available.
Practice Details
The hospital has been serving its community since 1996 and is AAHA accredited, providing a full scope of GP services alongside Internal Medicine, comprehensive dentistry, Behavioral Consultations and Surgery. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, Ultrasound and In-House Radiography, alongside a state-of-the-art surgical suite with modern anesthetic monitoring and surgical equipment, an In-House Pharmacy and additional diagnostic capabilities. The hospital has grown considerably from its original single-doctor practice and continues to invest in its clinical capabilities while maintaining the feel of an established community hospital. Current opening hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the hospital is closed on Sundays.
Team
The level of experience within the team is one of the strongest parts of this opportunity. The recruitment information describes two full-time veterinarians with more than 50 years of combined experience, supported by five Certified Veterinary Technicians with significant experience of their own, creating a particularly strong foundation for mentorship and collaboration. The current hospital roster reflects a broader 3-DVM team alongside multiple Certified Veterinary Technicians and client service professionals, so there are plenty of experienced people around you to ask questions, bounce ideas off and learn from. For a newer veterinarian especially, that provides the chance to develop with genuine support around you, while an experienced doctor can still enjoy the autonomy and close client relationships of a community-focused practice.
