Job Description
Introduction
Our client is an AHAA Accredited and Gold Level Feline hospital hiring for an Associate Veterinarian. This is a small animal practice providing comprehensive primary and advanced veterinary care for companion animals. The role is based in Kankakee, Illinois and focuses on delivering high-quality medicine to dogs and cats. The hospital is not described as independent or privately owned.
Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm, with the hospital closed on Sundays. The position is available on a full-time basis with a schedule of four set weekdays and a rotating half-day Saturday, and part-time options are also available. No after-hours or emergency coverage is listed.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Associate Veterinarian will provide a wide range of clinical services including wellness and preventative care, primary care, internal medicine, anesthesia, dentistry, general and soft tissue surgery, spay and neuter procedures, routine surgeries, pain management, geriatric medicine, hospitalization, and end-of-life care. Additional responsibilities include diagnostic imaging, in-house laboratory work, nutritional counseling, pet loss support, and client education. The role supports both experienced veterinarians and new graduates, with students and recent graduates encouraged to apply and access structured mentorship.

The hospital is AAHA accredited and recognized as a Gold Level Feline Friendly Practice by the AAFP. It emphasizes Fear Free techniques and low-stress handling. The facility is equipped with advanced technology including digital radiology, ultrasound, endoscopy, cold laser therapy, tonopen, in-house laboratory, and an in-house pharmacy. Services offered include advanced care, alternative medicine such as acupuncture, internal medicine, diabetes management, preventive medicine, dental care, surgery, diagnostics, grooming, boarding, and comprehensive wellness plans. The practice promotes progressive medicine within a supportive and growth-oriented culture and maintains strong involvement in the local community.
Team
The veterinary team consists of 3 DVMs supported by experienced support staff. The environment is described as collaborative and supportive, with a strong focus on mentorship, teamwork, and providing compassionate, high-quality care.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
