Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a veterinary center in Chicago, IL and is hiring for a Medical Lead Veterinarian. The hospital provides high-level small animal care, advanced cardiology services, and exotic pet care for small mammals, reptiles, and birds. The role is a leadership position responsible for championing medical excellence while also practicing as a veterinarian.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm, Saturday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and is closed on Sunday.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Lead Veterinarian is responsible for mentoring and developing associate veterinarians, partnering with the Practice Manager to build a healthy and engaged team, and driving continuous improvement in patient care and client service. Responsibilities include managing associate veterinarians through regular performance discussions and coaching on development goals, role modelling medical excellence while practicing clinically and achieving individual production goals, supporting hospital performance planning and financial management toward an EBITDA goal, ensuring compliance with medical and DEA regulations, leading monthly doctor meetings, supervising externship and mentorship programs, championing recruitment, and supporting community engagement through schools, universities, and local events. The role requires a minimum of two years of practical clinical experience.

Practice Details
The hospital is AAHA accredited and focuses on evidence-based medicine with an emphasis on diagnostics and advanced tools and technology. Services include emergency care, cardiology, exotic pet wellness and preventive care, species-specific diagnostics, chronic condition management, anesthesia and monitoring, soft tissue surgery, dental procedures and extractions, foreign body removal, digital radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory testing, pharmacy, microchipping, vaccinations, preventive care, nutrition, behavior, dermatology, senior wellness, puppy and kitten care, and specialty consultations including cardiology, internal medicine, critical care, dermatology, behavior, and more. The facility provides on-site diagnostic testing including CBC, chemistry, cytology, fecal and urinalysis, and offers imaging and diagnostic capabilities such as radiology, ultrasound, and diagnostic imaging services.

Team
The veterinary team includes three DVMs. The hospital culture emphasizes collaboration, ongoing education, mentorship, and professional development, with access to internal specialty consultations and resources to support complex case management.

Candidate Requirements 

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
