Job Description

Introduction
An independently owned small animal hospital in Carson City, Nevada is seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join its close-knit and experienced team. Led by two owner-veterinarians and supported by a team of 13, the practice combines high-quality general medicine with the autonomy and personal atmosphere of independent ownership. The hospital is looking for a veterinarian who enjoys building lasting client relationships and wants the time and support to practise thoughtful medicine without sacrificing life outside of work. Ideally, you’ll bring at least three years of experience, although a confident recent graduate who is comfortable demonstrating clinical competence and independence will also be considered. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available, and additional clinical interests are welcomed should you wish to broaden the services currently offered.

Working Hours / Rota
Work-life balance is a genuine strength of this opportunity, with the hospital operating Monday through Friday and remaining closed on weekends and major holidays, with no overnight shifts and no on-call responsibilities. Full-time veterinarians can work four 10-hour shifts or five shorter shifts each week, while part-time doctors can work three days per week. Appointment lengths are designed around the type of case, with 15 minutes typically allocated for vaccinations and 30 minutes for sick or injured patients, while urgent care slots are deliberately kept available throughout the day rather than completely filling the diary with routine appointments. Doctors also have a dedicated surgery morning and dedicated dentistry morning each week, creating protected time for procedures and a more structured working week.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As an Associate Veterinarian, you’ll provide comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care for canine and feline patients, managing preventative healthcare, sick and injured appointments, diagnostics, treatment planning and ongoing case management. You’ll perform routine soft tissue surgery and dentistry, including dental radiograph interpretation and extractions, while having the clinical autonomy to make appropriate decisions for your patients. The hospital currently focuses exclusively on small animals but is open to veterinarians bringing additional interests that could complement or expand its services. Strong client communication and independent case management are important, but you’ll practise within a collaborative environment where the owner-veterinarians and wider team are available for discussion and support when needed.

Practice Details
The hospital has five exam rooms and a modern diagnostic and treatment setup including digital full-body and dental radiography, ultrasound, an in-house Zoetis laboratory, Zoetis Imagyst diagnostics and AI-assisted medical transcription to reduce the administrative burden of completing records. Clinical support is a particular strength, with approximately 1.5 dedicated in-clinic support staff per veterinarian on each shift and typically 2.5 to 3 total team members supporting each doctor when the wider hospital team is considered. The practice’s philosophy centres on individual attention, preventative medicine and keeping its medical and surgical standards current while maintaining the family-focused culture of an independently owned hospital. Carson City also offers an attractive lifestyle outside of work, with Lake Tahoe around 30 minutes away, Reno nearby for restaurants, nightlife and entertainment, and exceptional access to hiking, skiing, mountain biking and other year-round outdoor recreation.
