Job Description
Introduction
With seven veterinarians and a particularly experienced technical team around you, this AAHA-accredited hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is looking to welcome an Associate Veterinarian, with full-time and part-time opportunities available. The hospital has been part of the Lehigh Valley community for more than 75 years and provides care for dogs and cats alongside birds, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, rats and some reptiles. General Practice forms the foundation of the caseload, with advanced medical, surgical and dental care available in-house and the opportunity to become involved with exotic patients depending on your individual interests. There’s also dedicated mentorship available, making this a nice environment for someone who wants plenty of clinical experience around them while continuing to develop their own confidence and interests.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of General Practice responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of cases across preventive medicine, diagnostics, treatment planning, dentistry and surgery. You’ll have access to strong in-house diagnostic capabilities when cases require further investigation, alongside experienced doctors and technicians to discuss cases with when another perspective would be useful. There’s also the option to become more involved with the hospital’s exotic caseload if that’s an area you’re interested in developing, rather than it being an expectation for every incoming veterinarian. Clinical autonomy is encouraged, while structured onboarding, mentorship and continued professional development provide additional support as your career progresses. For full-time Associates, the typical schedule is four days per week with every fourth Saturday, creating a particularly manageable working pattern alongside the hospital’s extended opening hours.
Practice Details
The hospital was founded in 1949 and is AAHA accredited, providing a full scope of GP services alongside advanced medical care, Dentistry and Surgery, all delivered with a Fear Free approach designed to reduce patient stress and anxiety. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, an In-House Laboratory, Digital Radiography, Ultrasound and Surgical Laser, alongside a large In-House Pharmacy and complete Dental Suite. The hospital also has established imaging and surgical capabilities and works with referral and specialty providers when patients require care beyond what can be appropriately managed in-house. Current opening hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the hospital is closed on Sundays.
Team
The level of support available is one of the strongest parts of this opportunity, with the recruitment information describing a team of 7 veterinarians, 10 Certified Veterinary Technicians, 9 Veterinary Assistants and 6 client service representatives. There’s also a huge amount of experience within the doctor team, with some veterinarians having worked at the hospital for several decades and clinical interests spanning Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ultrasound and Avian Medicine. That gives you plenty of people to bounce ideas off and learn from, whether you’re developing confidence with everyday GP cases, looking to strengthen your surgical skills or interested in gaining more exposure to less commonly seen species. At the same time, there’s still plenty of independence to manage your own patients and build genuine long-term relationships with clients.
