Job Description
Introduction
An established AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital in Athens, Alabama is seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join its experienced team. Providing comprehensive veterinary care primarily for dogs and cats, the hospital combines General Practice medicine with advanced diagnostics, surgery, dentistry and additional medical services. The position provides the opportunity to manage a varied caseload within an established four-veterinarian environment, with extensive in-house diagnostic capabilities and a strong emphasis on continued learning, collaboration and high clinical standards.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of General Practice responsibilities, including wellness and preventive care, diagnostic investigation, treatment planning, dentistry, surgery and ongoing medical management. The successful veterinarian will maintain responsibility for their own cases, developing appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans and communicating clinical findings and recommendations effectively with clients. The hospital’s extensive diagnostic and surgical capabilities provide opportunities to investigate and manage more involved cases in-house, while the established veterinary and technical teams provide a collaborative environment for case discussion and continued clinical development.
Practice Details
The hospital provides a full scope of GP services, alongside Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, Oncology, Endocrinology, Endoscopy, advanced Dentistry and Orthopedic Surgery. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, Digital Radiography, advanced Abdominal and Cardiac Ultrasound and an In-House Laboratory capable of providing rapid Blood Chemistry, CBC, Electrolyte, Urinalysis, Thyroid, Coagulation and additional diagnostic testing. The facility also incorporates an Intensive Care Unit, supporting continuous monitoring and postoperative recovery for surgical patients. Surgical capabilities extend from Soft Tissue procedures through Orthopedic Surgery, with individualized anesthesia, pain management and continuous patient monitoring. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, with the hospital closed on Sundays.
Team
The hospital currently has an established four-veterinarian team, supported by multiple Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and client service professionals. The veterinary team brings considerable General Practice experience alongside individual clinical interests, including advanced Ultrasound and Internal Medicine, with one veterinarian having completed additional formal training in veterinary ultrasonography. The combination of an experienced doctor team, licensed technical support and extensive in-house diagnostic capabilities provides a collaborative environment for managing both routine and more complex medical and surgical cases.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
