Introduction
Our client is a 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Criticalist to join their well-established and highly skilled team. This AAHA-accredited hospital provides advanced, referral-level care for small animals and is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic technology to support a wide range of emergency and specialty services. The hospital’s commitment to excellence, collaboration, and innovation has made it a leading center for critical and specialty veterinary medicine in the region.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring around-the-clock care for patients in need of emergency and specialized medical attention. Specialty appointment hours run Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available, allowing for flexibility in scheduling and a balance between professional fulfillment and personal well-being.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Criticalist will provide advanced emergency and critical care for a diverse caseload, working collaboratively with a team of specialists and emergency clinicians. Responsibilities include performing and overseeing intensive patient monitoring, advanced diagnostics, and life-saving procedures. The ideal candidate will deliver compassionate, evidence-based medicine, communicate effectively with referring veterinarians and clients, and contribute to the hospital’s ongoing culture of learning and professional growth. This role is open to board-certified or residency-trained veterinarians who thrive in a dynamic, team-based environment and are passionate about advancing critical care standards.

Practice Details
This state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot facility includes six exam rooms, two surgical suites, CT, digital fluoroscopy, and both rigid and flexible endoscopy. The hospital also features a hyperbaric chamber, a dedicated physical therapy department equipped with an underwater treadmill and K-laser, and advanced imaging capabilities including MRI and CT. Specialty services include orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, internal medicine, physical rehabilitation, oncology, radiology, and advanced treatments such as stem cell therapy. The hospital also performs complex procedures such as urethral and tracheal stenting, collagen injections, cataract surgery, and brain surgery, offering truly comprehensive care.

Candidate Requirements 

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
