Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a full-service companion animal hospital based in Charleston, SC, seeking a Medical Lead Veterinarian to join their team. This AAHA-accredited hospital provides comprehensive veterinary services for dogs and cats, combining advanced medicine with compassionate, individualized care.
Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. It is closed on Sundays. This is a full-time position, with no overnight or on-call requirements.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Lead Veterinarian will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while also providing leadership and mentorship to the veterinary team. Duties include performing physical examinations, surgeries, and dentistry, while maintaining strong client communication and education. This role combines 80–90% clinical responsibilities with 10–20% leadership duties. Leadership tasks involve mentoring associate veterinarians, guiding medical standards, reviewing performance, and collaborating with the Hospital Manager to drive hospital growth and operational success. This position is open to experienced veterinarians who are confident in both their clinical and leadership abilities.

The hospital is well-equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical technology, including an in-house lab, dental suite, microchipping, dermatology services, and urgent care capabilities. As an AAHA-accredited hospital, it operates to the highest medical standards. The practice emphasizes preventative care, pain management, and personalized treatment plans, with a strong focus on client education and compassionate service.
Team
The team currently includes one DVM, with this role joining as the second veterinarian, supported by a highly skilled group of support staff. The hospital culture is collaborative, patient-centered, and committed to professional development.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
